The people of India hope to establish friendly and strong bonds with the French Republic. We wish to begin open trade, exporting spices, tea leaves, and rice to France. We hold France in such esteem, we hope for them to administer the referendums taking place this September in Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Punjab.

[OOC: Assuming you just skipped to the meeting.]
"Bienvenu à Paris, Monsieur! On behalf of the nation of France, thank you. Of course the commerce you speak of will require a mutually beneficial trade pact." The representative pulled out a couple of papers. "But, premières choses premières, Ambassador! Would you care to hold an embassy in our beau capital of Paris? You know what they say, Ambassador, it's the city of amour!"

"We would love to hold an embassy in the famed City of Love." The representative pulls out some papers of his own. "I assume we shall have open trade free of tariffs?"

"Doing such would require a Trade Pact. Assuming the Indian Commonwealth is interested in such an agreement, I would say free trade is essential. During such a crucial time as the winter requires us all to have fair commerce."

"We are definitely interested in a free trade agreement. We should look into the reopening of the Suez Canal, as that would be much more efficient than sailing around the southern tip of Africa."

"We should establish a base in Egypt for maintenance of the Suez Canal. We can have a joint partnership, if you wish. Do you suppose other nations passing through this route that do not participate in this funding should be forced to pay taxes to recompense for expenses? I disagree, personally, but there is no denying that it would be very profitable, and could be put to good use for the world."

"We would need funds to upkeep the canal. However, France will definitely take part in Suez maintenance efforts."

"I agree we need funds, but I distinctly want a different approach than the imperialistic tyranny of the British. They held a protectorate and military presence in Egypt before the war, and they too used the Suez Canal to tax ships and for their gain. The people of my nation know all too well what this is like. We will upkeep the canal with you, but we must prove that we are not like the British, and I believe excess funds should go to benefit those left stranded by the Nile in Egypt, with growing ice caps causing the Nile to recede. These people need water. Many are clamoring for a High Dam at Aswan. I believe that, over several years, we could achieve enough funds to make this dream a reality."

"Yes, I agree. Many have suffered from the tyranny of British taxation, from America to Egypt. The French nation believes we shouldn't be as imperialistic and tyrannic with tariffs as they were, however seven or so percent on goods shouldn't hurt. It's not like we're searching homes, stealing property, and taxing wills. We do have our own nations to spend our own income on, we can't devote much more to Suez. But I do honor you for the proposal for helping those by the Nile with excess profits, however I am simply not sure how much excess income we will have. We should wait a year or two before starting such a program to be sure there are sufficient profits."

"Agreed. India isn't the richest nation itself, and we have a starvation epidemic of our own to deal with and I'm sure France has its own issues. Of course, we need to prioritize this first, but I believe a fraction of the profits gained could be set aside for a long-term goal. On a side note, I have heard rumors of an undefined entity claiming to represent Russia threatening war with Ukraine. Being near to the region, are these true? What is your stance on this 'Russia'? We most certainly do not wish to be embroiled in a war so soon after the horrors of the last one."

"Of course we don't want to be in another war. All we can do as peace-loving nations is hope that Russia gains its senses. Otherwise, it becomes our duty to protect Ukraine from becoming a victim of yet another vicious attack."
